Bauhaus theatre workshop
7th International Stage Workshop of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation from September 24 to October 20, 2007
Urban eccentricity
The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation invites performing and visual artists to create a performance collage and installation at the 7th International Stage Workshop from 24 September to 20 October 2007.
Concepts associated with the historic Bauhaus stage – such as those Laszlo Moholy-Nagy had designed as “mechanical eccentricity” and “great, dynamic-rhythmic creative process” – are to be reflected and updated in contemporary terms in the context of public spaces in the city of Dessau.
The key focus is not on reconstruction or formalistic adaptation, but on a confrontation with Moholy’s model of dynamic spatial production as “motion organisation”.
Everyday poses and gestures will be investigated as urban forms of motion, primarily in the Dessau Stadtpark. These will then be interpreted on the Bauhaus stage through performance, dance, visual arts, media arts, or installations.
The results will be presented to the public from 16 to 20 October 2007 and discussed with guest experts in a concluding colloquium. The participants receive a certificate. A publication documenting the project will appear in December.
Applications with documents verifying artistic qualifications (certificates, copies of work samples – since returning them is not possible), also a brief commentary explaining reasons for the interest in taking part (own project ideas are welcome) are to be sent to the following address by 30 July 2007:
