The Halle International Summer SchoolThe International Summer School Halle is a cooperation between the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, the Thalia Theatre Halle, Halle City Council and the International Building Exhibition (IBA) City Conversion 2010 Saxony-Anhalt. For almost four weeks, the buildings in and around Halle Neustadt’s suburban train station will be transformed into knowledge production and knowledge communication spaces. Through workshops, theatre actions and many other events, Halle-Neustadt will become a centre of cultural activities and a temporary utopia. All events share a creative, imaginative and sensitive character and constitute an unusual, lively programme. Whilst the Thalia Theatre is developing new forms of knowledge communication by asking the question “What role does the state play?”, the “beautiful Neustadt” programme, which has been jointly organised by the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation and the IBA City Conversion 2010 Saxony-Anhalt, will aim at finding Neustadt’s quality, potential and beauty. The common aim of the organisers is, in relation to Halle’s historically rich old town, to discover and test Halle-Neustadt as a site for new ideas and projects. We hope that the Summer School’s temporary and experimental activities will have a lasting effect on the public perception of Halle Neustadt as well as leaving behind stimuli and impulses for future developments.
