In Vom Nutzen der Angst – The Politics of Selection, 2013–2018, a multipart group of works, artist Peggy Buth examines the alleged failure of postwar mod ern housing projects in France and the United States. Symboli cally ambiguous, the failure of standards and expectations im posed on the projects reveals the socialpolitical faultlines underlying social housing: they in clude policies of selection and redemption, policies of distribution and redistribution, but also the mechanisms of architecture and the organisation of cities. For the Intermezzo, Buth is putting together a selection of these works, at the center of which is a video work on the demolition of the „Pruitt Igoe“ residential complex in St. Louis, USA, in 1972 – a beacon of the failure of postwar modernism.
