In Vom Nutzen der Angst – The Politics of Selection, 2013–2018, a multi­part group of works, artist Peggy Buth examines the alleged failure of postwar mod­ ern housing projects in France and the United States. Symboli­ cally ambiguous, the failure of standards and expectations im­ posed on the projects reveals the social­political faultlines un­derlying social housing: they in­ clude policies of selection and redemption, policies of distribu­tion and redistribution, but also the mechanisms of architecture and the organisation of cities. For the Intermezzo, Buth is put­ting together a selection of the­se works, at the center of which is a video work on the demoliti­on of the „Pruitt Igoe“ residential complex in St. Louis, USA, in 1972 – a beacon of the failure of post­war modernism.
