Gears turn, chains clank, metal eyes light up: The Herd of Mechanical Beings is an installation of recycled bicycles come to life. It illustrates the connection between technical progress and upcycling in times of scarce resources as well as a do-it-yourself mentality and a romanticism of adventure. The animals stand inside a small wooden fence and move minimally. Now and then, the herders open the gate and lead the herd to another “meadow” or back to the pen.
