UNESCO World Heritage

The UNESCO World Heritage Convention
UNESCO seeks to protect and preserve cultural and natural heritage around the world. Cultural heritage is regarded as evidence of past cultures and artistic masterpieces, the decay of which would be an immense loss for humanity as a whole. World Heritage Sites are authentic and essentially fully intact. The protection of this world heritage is the duty not only of single nations, but of the international community as a whole.

The former school for the education and training of members of the Allgemeiner Deutsche Gewerkschaftsbund (ADGB) testifies to the scientific basis of the design process at the Bauhaus under Hannes Meyer. It was also informed by socio-political concerns and uniquely exemplifies the unity of research, praxis and teaching that the Bauhaus strove to achieve. The rigorously rationalised building manifests a complex connection between architecture and nature and is distinguished by its exceptional architectonic quality. The building is currently used by the Handwerkskammer Berlin (HWK) as a residential school for training in the skilled crafts and trades.
