The starting point for the Bauhaus Lab 2020 is a block of sul­fur concrete that was used in experimental low­cost housing in 1972. The block is part of the archive of the Minimum Cost Housing Group at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Mon­ treal. Rallying around the ques­tion “How the other half builds,” the group began to investigate living and building in developing countries at McGill University in Montreal in the 1970s.

Looking at four newly acquired fabrics by the Bauhaus artist, this intermezzo traces the product’s infrastructure from its initial design to the final industrially manufactured textile. Simultaneous with the exhibitions, Judith Raum will create an installation in the rooms of the historic textile workshop in the Bauhaus Building.

This is the question addressed by the Workshops for the whole earth, to which the Bauhaus Kooperation Berlin Dessau Weimar invites on 4 and 5 June 2021. This European forum of design education is the starting point for a European initiative that develops building blocks for workshops of post-fossil, post-disciplinary design for schools, educational projects and universities.
