Kick-off for Bauhaus jubilee in Dessau
Ready for the museum?

23 February 2019
2 pm – 9 pm
Bauhaus Museum Dessau
Mies-van-der-Rohe-Platz 1
2019 marks the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus. In Dessau this year there is a varied programme and some changes. The highlight of the centenary in Dessau is the opening of the Bauhaus Museum Dessau on 8 September. There, for the first time, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation’s collection will be shown extensively. At the same time, the museum's central location creates new connections in the city.
These connections are taken up by the Bauhaus Festivals Dessau, among others. The festivals School Fundamental, Architectur Radical and Stage Total deal with the pedagogical, architectural and performative concepts of the Bauhaus from today's perspective in very different ways. Together with international artists, designers and interested visitors, spaces such as the newly opened Bauhaus buildings (Bauhaus Buildings Dessau: Originals retold) and free spaces for experiments will be conquered.
The opening event of the centenary year in Dessau is one such experiment: the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is making the Open Stage in the new museum building accessible to visitors for the first time. In music, performances and conversations, everyone can get an impression of the varied programme in Dessau and immerse themselves for a whole day in the Bauhaus centenary.
Admission is free.
For security reasons, the number of visitors is limited, so there may be waiting times.
