Gropius House || Fictional.
Jan Tichy and Kristof Magnusson

Exhibition
4 Oct 2020 – 14 Mar 2021
Gropius House
Fensterbilder (window pictures) was the title of the last group of works by Oskar Schlemmer, created in 1942 in Wuppertal, to which Jan Tichy refers in the title of his Dessau works. The window becomes a membrane for the artist, photography a communication between inside and outside, past and present. At the same time, Tichy focuses on absences, such as Lucia Moholy's 330 lost photographs or the columns of the terrace in Gropius House, which were destroyed by the bombing in 1945 and not included in the abstract design in 2014.
During his short but intensive stay at the Bauhaus Residency, the novelist and theater writer Kristof Magnusson dealt with his own working processes: When does writing begin, where does research end? How do the environment and surroundings influence one's own working processes? What effect does the past of a place have on the people who inhabit it? Magnusson also addressed these and other questions in the video work he created for the exhibition in Gropius House.
