Open the Doors!
The Bauhaus Museum Dessau Comes to Life
Themed evenings following the construction of the new museum.
2017 – 2019
The new Bauhaus Museum Dessau will open in 2019 so that the world’s second-largest Bauhaus collection may be shown to the general public for the very first time. The museum is being built to commemorate the centenary in 2019 of the founding of the Bauhaus. With its location in the Stadtpark in the city of Dessau-Roßlau it will stand as a contemporary statement linking the historic Bauhaus buildings distributed throughout the metropolitan area.
In December 2015 the Spanish architects addenda architects (González Hinz Zabala) were commissioned to build the new Bauhaus Museum Dessau. The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, which is both builder and owner of the museum, has since been planning the building and its construction together with the architects. At the same time, the Foundation’s academic team have been working on the concept for the exhibition and its mediation.
There is a great deal to be planned, considered, decided and prepared. With the series “Open the Doors!” the Foundation’s staff invite interested members of the public to follow the development process of the museum. How should we present the superlative collection? How can we lend the objects a voice? Which narratives are particularly important to us?
We look forward to discussing these questions with you in very different ways on six evenings, so that together we can open the doors to the new museum now – at least in our imaginations.
