With the Bauhaus Jazz Exploration, the Open Stage at the Bauhaus Museum Dessau opens up for a space- and time-breaking experiment. After almost a century of time travel, a record returns to Dessau that the Bauhaus student Wilhelm Imkamp gave to the 8-year-old Günter Boas: Basin Street Blues by Louis Armstrong. The Dessau jazz pioneer Günter Boas was persecuted by the National Socialists because of his passion for music; later he became a pioneering musician and jazz publicist.
When young jazz musicians come on stage at the Bauhaus Jazz Exploration today, they face new challenges. How much improvisation do society and culture need in times of crisis? This is the question that a new generation of jazz musicians will be discussing with researchers and chroniclers at the Bauhaus and presenting their sound.
In cooperation with the Netzwerk Nachhaltigkeit in Kunst und Kultur e.V. and the Kurt Weill Fest 2022, which takes place from 25 February to 13 March.
