ALMA_100
in the Bauhaus Museum Dessau

Lingering, sitting, working, playing, building new spaces – ALMA_100 playfully fulfils many functions. Inspired by Alma Siedhoff’s Small Ship-Building Game, the building system is an oversized Bauhaus quote. The ALMA_100 play furniture is based on Hilke Idziaschek’s and Helma Janssen’s (LUKS Spiel- und Lerndesign) prize-winning idea developed on the occasion of the Spielelement für das BMD competition. Since 2019, it has invited visitors to linger and play or to compose the parts of the building game individually.

The challenge was to explore the Bauhaus tradition of craftsmanship, materials and new industrial technology in order to try out or invent unknown and unusual combinations of materials and other elements. The result was a construction kit of translucent colour surfaces that reflect the transparency of the museum’s architecture.
