We are renovating for the
In 2019 we will be celebrating the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus. The original architecture plays a major role in the centenary programme. The Bauhaus Building, the Masters’ Houses and the Houses with Balcony Access are all UNESCO World Heritage sites. One of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation’s tasks is to preserve this material heritage of the Bauhaus, and this includes its restoration, upkeep and care.
Visitors should please note that for the duration of the construction work in 2018 exterior views in particular may be affected.
By the beginning of 2019, right on time for the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus, all the construction work will be finished and visitors will again have unobstructed views of all the Bauhaus buildings.
6 August – 7 December 2018
Work on the facades of the Studio Building will be carried out from 6 August to 7 December 2018. Scaffolding will be put up, but this will not affect the view of the east side of the building with its celebrated balconies. 15 of the 23 guest rooms will continue to be available for bookings from 5 September. From October, scaffolding will also be put up on the east side of the Studio Building so that work on the facade can proceed.
This will also limit the number rooms available and restrict the view of the Studio Building.
July – December 2018
Work on the Masters’ Houses will be carried out from July to December 2018. Scaffolding will be put up temporarily for facade and roof work. This will affect the guided tours and restrict the view of the Masters’ Houses. The Kandinsky/Klee Masters’ House will be closed in 2018.
The Muche House and the Feininger House will remain open to visitors with some restrictions. The New Masters’ Houses (Gropius and Moholy-Nagy) will be open as usual.
The Konsum building will be closed till 19 January 2019. There will be guided tours on a daily basis till September 2018.
Work on the Bauhaus buildings on the Dessau-Törten Housing Estate will take place from 3 September 2018 to 19 January 2019. During this period the Houses with Balcony Access and Anton House will be closed. There will be no guided tours or information point on site.
This will also affect visits to and the guided tours of the Dessau-Törten Housing Estate.
The café-bistro in the Bauhaus Building will be closed from 8 to 25 November. During this period the Bauhaus Canteen in the Bauhaus Building will be open from 8 am to 5 pm daily.
This will affect the dining choice at the Bauhaus.
