Open Studio Berlin

Rudolf Laban’s Notation
30 . – 31 . 3 . 2016

The aim of this Open Studio was to approach the dance notation of Rudolf Laban (1879–1958) from an interdisciplinary perspective, in theory and in practice. The pioneer of German expressive dance was influenced by the artistic movements of the early twentieth century. His estate includes drawings, architectural designs and sculptures.

Laban’s preoccupation with proportion studies and the geometric systemisation of human movement based on platonic bodies, which was closely related to the ideas of Oskar Schlemmer, was to be analysed with regard to the Bauhaus stage as a performance venue and brought to life for the participants in the Open Studio by means of own practice-based movement studies.
