William Overcash

24 January – 20 March 2019
William Overcash (*1992, USA, lives in Frankfurt) is a violinist with a keen interest in the development of music and, increasingly, performance art. He studied music at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Ohio and at Rice University in Huston, Texas. As a freelance performing artist, William Overcash regularly plays with the Ensemble Modern in Frankfurt and the Oh Ton Ensemble in Oldenburg. He is also a member of the Rothko String Quartet and Ensemble, the Broken Frames Syndicate and more.
At the Bauhaus Dessau, as a member of the duo Overcash/Schneidewendt he and the clarinettist Moritz Schneidewendt focus on the work of Wassily Kandinsky. For the artist and Bauhaus master, fine art and music were evidently closely connected. Overcash/Schneidewendt endeavour to build on and realise using contemporary methods the musical dimension of Kandinsky’s ideas and graphic works. Inspired by international composers and the Total Theatre concept they devise a spatial concept that also invites the public to get involved.
William Overcash is an artist of the Bauhaus Centenary Residency programme hosted by the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation in cooperation with the Kurt Weill Fest.
