“Open Studios – Teaching Models” are part of the Year of Germany in Russia

As part of the Year of Germany in Russia, the German-Russian digital project Bauhaus Open Studios – Teaching Models – a project of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation in cooperation with IGUMO – took place from 15 to 17 October 2020. Teachers and students from all over Russia took part in this project. The Year of Germany in Russia is a political, social and cultural event organised by the Goethe Institute, the German Embassy in Moscow and the German-Russian Chamber of Commerce Abroad.

With this project, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, in cooperation with the Moscow university IGUMO, aims to sensitise broad sections of civil society in Russia to the Bauhaus heritage and its transcultural aspects, thus contributing to the awareness of the Bauhaus and at the same time of parallel avant-garde movements of the 20th century, such as the Russian architecture laboratory WChUTEMAS. The programme is primarily aimed at prospective and working teachers (of German, art and history) from the Russian regions and is implemented in the form of online lectures, practical online workshops and thematic online excursions. It consists of theoretical and practical online blocks. Practical blocks include work under the guidance of the Bauhaus and IGUMO lecturers with materials sent to the participants in advance – the Bauhaus pre-course module and the handout on the Russian movement of the avant-garde WChUTEAMAS developed by IGUMO.

With this project, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation remains both in the tradition of the sensual teaching of the Bauhaus teachings, but at the same time expands its range of courses with digital approaches to design education.
