Sujata Bhatt, born 1956 in Ahmedabad, India, is a poet and translator. In 1968 she emigrated with her family to the United States and studied at the University of Iowa. Her poetry has received numerous awards and has been translated into more than 20 languages. She has been a visiting professor at the universities of Victoria in Canada, Nottingham Trent in England and Dickinson College in the USA. As Writer in Residence and guest of international literature festivals she travels a lot and lives in Bremen.
Sujata Bhatt was the first writer to be invited to live and work in the Dessau Masters' Houses as part of the Bauhaus Residence Programme "Gropius House || Fictional". The resulting works will become part of the exhibition in Haus Gropius, which is expected to open in June 2020. In readings and discussions organised in cooperation with the Literaturhaus Berlin, she will also present the works to the public and report on her experiences in the Bauhaus Residency Programme.
