Canteen – Dine in a Historic Setting
Here in the 1920s the legends of the Bauhaus gathered for lunch, seated on stools designed by Marcel Breuer. In the course of renovation the furniture by Marcel Breuer and the colour design by Hinnerk Scheper were successfully recreated. Today, as a result, visitors can dine in the original ambience. Although the food is substantially different now, back then the menu offered more frugal comforts such as bread with buttermilk.

Kiosk by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe
The Kiosk is the only building realised in Dessau by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Even though it survived the war largely intact, it was demolished in the GDR era. In 2014 it returned with the New Masters’ Houses by Berlin-based architects BFM – reduced to pure form as a contemporary interpretation.
In 2016, the Trinkhalle resumed its function as a kiosk and has now reopened after a longer pandemic-related closure period. In keeping with the historical tradition, cold drinks and hot coffee specialities are once again available on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., as well as small snacks for in between.
The garden of Haus Gropius at the back of the Trinkhalle offers shady spots and invites you to linger.
