Construction work in 2018

To prepare for the centenary of the founding of the Bauhaus, which will be celebrated nationwide in 2019, construction work will take place in the Bauhaus buildings in Dessau from June to November 2018. We would like to extend our apologies to visitors for any negative impact that this work may have, especially on views of exteriors.

Bauhaus Building
The Bauhaus Building will be fully accessible as usual throughout the year. All rooms will be open to visitors (the director’s room and the auditorium only to visitors on a guided tour). The renowned facades will also be wholly visible.

Studio Building with canteen
The Studio Building and the canteen up to the bridge building will be surrounded by scaffolding from 4 June to the end of October, so that the facades may be re-rendered. Inside, new windows will be installed on the west facade. Unfortunately, our guest rooms can only be booked to a limited extent within this period. More information, here

Masters’ Houses
A range of renovation measures will be implemented in the Masters’ Houses from mid-May to the end of October. The New Gropius and Moholy-Nagy Masters’ Houses, Feininger House and Muche House will be open to visitors. The Schlemmer House is the residence for contemporary artists in the context of the Bauhaus Residence. The Kandinsky/Klee House will be closed for maintenance and will re-open in 2019.

Dessau-Törten Housing Estate
In the summer, construction work will be carried out in the Konsum Building on the Dessau-Törten Housing Estate. The visitor centre will be located in the Steel House during this time.
