Friday Group

// Event Series
Bauhaus Museum Dessau, Spatial Stage
In view of the climate change, debates have increased surrounding the topic and also awareness of the urgency to take concrete measures. Accordingly, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is initiating a new series – the Friday Group. Once a month as of April 2023 in the Bauhaus Museum Dessau, this event will address the challenges confronting us today through the social and ecological transformation; it will present them by citing concrete examples experienced in the region and will host discussions with guests and embed these challenges in a greater, global context.
The title of the series alludes on one hand to the Fridays for Future movement and on the other to the Freitagsgruppe headed by Ludwig Hilbersheimer until 1937 in his Berlin office. This amalgamation of former Bauhaus members and colleagues of the architect provided the foundation for his ideas on the New City, which he published in 1944 and which aspired to attain a “harmonious relationship between human being, nature and technology.” The Friday’s Group is also aligned within the Bauhaus Dessau tradition of actively tackling and getting involved in social challenges.
