Bauhaus Detectives

Within the scope of an interactive guided tour in the Bauhaus Museum Dessau, participants address key objects from the collection presentation. in group work and with the help of active cards, individual objects will be investigated from the pupils’ perspective. The outcome is a tour together which encourages participants to engage in knowledge-sharing and active analysis of the exhibition’s themes.

The interactive guided tour presents a general introduction to the theme of the Bauhaus – the participants become Bauhaus detectives. Assisted by a guide they form three teams and investigate different stations in the famous Bauhaus Building. Explanations about the building and the historic Bauhaus alternate with active, hands-on research tasks. The children are given action sheets encouraging them to try things out, think about things and puzzle over them.

The interactive guided tour presents a general introduction to the theme of the Bauhaus – depending on their grade at school, the participants will become Bauhaus researchers or Bauhaus experts. Assisted by a guide they form three teams and investigate different stations in the famous Bauhaus Building. Explanations about the building and the historic Bauhaus alternate with active, hands-on research tasks. The youthful participants receive action sheets encouraging them to try things out, think about things and puzzle over them.

Photography | Easy – No Camera!

The workshop presents the photogram as a photographic technique. Using solar paper, pupils learn about the basics of analogue photography and experiment with different materials as creative element. Each participant places and exposes his or her own photogram and can directly observe the development of the picture. Provided that the workshop takes place in the Bauhaus Museum, original works by László Moholy-Nagy are viewed and discussed in the group.

Ready for some brainstorming? The workshop is all about finding ideas for the design process. How do we want to sit? – how do we generate ideas and design things, all in the space of sixty minutes? Four methods are selected, discussed and tried out that can be useful in generating ideas. The pupils get an inside view of design work performed by designers themselves and work on their own ideas for a piece of seating furniture – fertile ground for producing sketches, small spontaneous models, and lots of new ideas.

Bauhaus typeface design and print styles are synonymous with minimal, geometric, grotesque founts. We can say that so-called Bauhaus typography has been in existence since 1923. Lászlo Moholy-Nagy plays a key role as regards this term. He established the typical Bauhaus stylistic characteristics in typography. Along with him, teachers Herbert Bayer and Joost Schmidt introduced new, elemental principles of design in the curriculum of the commercial art workshop at the Bauhaus in Dessau. Workshop participants get an inside view of the quintessence of the Bauhaus. In practical, hands-on work, participants deal with the question, “how do you get a book out of a piece of paper?”

Guided tours
Our guided tours for schoolchildren are varied adventure tours. They contain methodically sequenced modules at various stations and last 90 minutes.
Workshops
Our 60-minute workshops give students the opportunity to explore a topic in greater depth. We are happy to offer you a guided tour and workshop as a package, including a break of at least 30 minutes between the formats.
