Terms and Conditions

Terms and Conditions for accommodation in the studio building of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation

(status as of June 2017)

The Bauhaus Dessau is one of the most important landmarks of modern architecture worldwide and was included on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1996. So that future generations, too, are able to experience this unique architecture it is therefore critical that the Bauhaus Building is protected and conserved. Particular care should thus be taken when using the building.

1. Scope of Application

These terms and conditions shall apply to all accommodation agreements between the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation and third parties (guests).

2. Bookings

An entitlement to a recreated room exists only when this room has been booked and confirmed; otherwise, rooms shall be offered according to availability. The guest shall receive a binding confirmation by e-mail, post or Fax.

3. Cancellation fees and deadlines

For a cancellation made 48 hours prior to the stay, a cancellation fee of 50% of the cost of accommodation shall apply. For a cancellation made on the day of arrival itself or a no-show, a cancellation fee of 80% of the cost of accommodation as per agreement shall apply.

For group bookings (from 7 persons) the following terms and conditions shall apply:

• For a cancellation made 4 weeks in advance, free cancellation is possible.

• Up to 2 weeks in advance, the number of persons may be reduced by max. 30 % cost-free; for a full cancellation, a cancellation fee of 50% of the cost of accommodation shall apply.

The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is obliged to promptly inform the guest in writing when exercising their right of withdrawal.

4. Advance payment of the cost of accommodation

The full cost of all booked accommodation services shall always be paid in advance by the guest, at the latest on arrival. The right to payment or invoicing at a later date is granted only in exceptional cases.

5. Taxes / Fees / Duties

The applicable prices are gross prices. The invoiced service is a non-taxable service of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation in the framework of asset management.

6. Use of and access to booked rooms

Rooms are available to guests from 2 p.m. on the day of arrival until 10.30 a.m. on the day of departure.

7. Liability risks

The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation assumes no liability for items or materials left by guests in public parts of the studio building. The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is not responsible for any items of any kind – especially so-called valuables – that guests bring into their guests rooms, and therefore assumes no responsibility for these. Guests are expressly informed that the studio building does not have a hotel safe or similar secure storage facilities. Therefore, any such items are brought into the building at the owner’s risk. Items left behind by guests are only returned on request and at the owner’s own risk and cost. Unclaimed items are stored by the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation for three months, after which, if they are of discernible value, they are handed over to the local lost property office.

Should a guest use a parking space belonging to the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, this does not constitute a safekeeping agreement. The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is not obliged to provide surveillance servies. The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is not liable for the loss or damage of vehicles parked on their property, or their contents, unless the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, its legal representatives or its subcontractors are at fault due to intent or gross negligence. In such a case, a claim for loss or damage must be properly filed with the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation before leaving the property of the Foundation.

8. No smoking in the studio building

The studio building of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation is a non-smoking building. Smoking is therefore not permitted in the public parts of the building or in the rooms. If this rule is breached, the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation reserves the right to claim a minimum of €500 from the guest in compensation for the cost of special cleaning services and any profits lost due to the non-availability of the room. The amount of compensation may be set higher or lower should the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation prove that the loss or damage suffered was greater, or should the guest prove that the loss or damage suffered was less.

9. Pets

Dogs or other pets of any kind are not permitted in the studio building.

10. Special information

Please note that because the building is listed, the handrails, railings, breastwork and barriers in the staircases and on the balconies do not comply with the recognised laws applicable to engineering or the current building standards. Access and use can only be permitted at one’s own risk. There is a danger of falling – especially for children, who can, e.g. fall or crawl through the railings in the staircase and on the balconies. Keep the balcony doors closed at all times!

A fee of €200 is charged for lost keys.

Emergency exit plans are situated on every floor. In case of fire, please follow the given escape routes or the instructions of staff.

11. Place of jurisdiction

The place of jurisdiction for all disputes arising between the parties engaged in the contractual relationship is Dessau-Roßlau.

12. Validity

Should individual provisions be ineffective or invalid, the validity of the remaining provisions is not affected. In all other respects, statutory provisions shall apply.
