Tracing O.S. – A Performance in Search of Traces of Oskar Schlemmer

  • 23rd April, 2015 – Premiere on the Bauhaus Stage; additional performance on 24th April, 2015

Oskar Schlemmer (1888–1943) was a painter, sculptor, director of the theatre workshop – and one of the most important artists at the Bauhaus. His multifaceted work continues to inspire artists of all genres to this day. With “tracing O.S.”, the dancer and choreographer Eva Baumann (Stuttgart), the composer and double bassist Klaus Janek (Berlin), the light artist Kurt Laurenz Theinert (Stuttgart) and the costume/ set designer Katrin Wittig (Berlin) embark on a performance in search of traces of the legendary artist. They bring the spirit of Oskar Schlemmer back to the Bauhaus Stage – through an experimental, abstract and absurd stage play. The little-known diary entries and letters of Schlemmer serve as the point of departure for the interdisciplinary expedition. It reveals his inner conflicts, whose conquest led to an artistic oeuvre without equal: painting or theatre, abstraction or figuration, human or technological. “tracing O.S.” takes up Schlemmer’s interdisciplinarity by bringing dance and light art together in a completely new combination: a costumed choreographic light concert. “tracing O.S.” is a production of eva baumann dance/performance and is co-produced by the Bauhaus Dessau/ Bauhaus Stage and the Produktionszentrum Tanz und Performance Stuttgart e.V. in cooperation with the Württembergischer Kunstverein Stuttgart.
