In 1996, UNESCO added the Bauhaus with its sites in Weimar and Dessau to the list of international world heritage sites. In 2017, the world heritage site was expanded to include the Houses with Balcony Access in DessauTörten and the ADGB Trade Union School in Bernau. Of course the Bauhaus owes its iconic status to its outstanding architecture, which shaped the image of modernism in the 20th century. The Bauhaus was also recognised for its institutional role.
On UNESCO World Heritage Day 2021 visitors receive free admission to the historical Bauhaus Building. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is necessary to reserve a free ticket in the online ticket shop.
